Austin bought his first acoustic guitar and played on a stage for the first time with Ian Parker, later that year he played two shows with Love of Lesbian in Murcia.
Austin formed his first band, Magnetik Surf and was chosen by Custom Guitar lab to play their guitars, this was the first time Austin started to play electric guitar, he started to play in bars and clubs around the region of Murcia. During this year he also started guesting with lots of local bands and participating in Jam Sessions.
Austin continued playing with Magnetik Surf and also formed Magnetik Jukebox both these bands extended their fan base by playing further afield in Almeria, Alicante and Valencia. Magnetik Surf was chosen by the hamburger chain Tommy Mel’s to play in their restaurants.
At the beginning of the year The Streeters was formed with members from Austins other bands and they started busking in the streets of Murcia. In a short time they had moved from the streets to the bars. Up to then the Streeters had played over 800 shows. During that time Austin also guested with various artists when he was not playing with The Streeters.
In this year The Streeters played over 260 shows sometimes playing 3 and even 4 shows a day. In the summer of this year Austin received a call saying that he had been chosen to play with Maná in the football stadium of Benidorm, where he played to 20.000 people. Shortly after this he also guested with Joanne Shaw Taylor in Jávea.
This year Austin evolved even more as a musician, he spent the first part of the year on tour with The Symphonic of Pink Floyd Show, playing in theatres and auditoriums all over Spain, including the Canary Islands. Straight after the tour Austin had 3 weeks to prepare for the Rock School exam which he took the highest level and passed with an amazing 85%. At the end of 2015 Austin had been selected as a young guitarist to play with Paul Gilbert on his Spanish tour, unfortunately the tour was cancelled but the promoter brought over Steve Vai not long after the Paul Gilbert tour was supposed to take place. Austin got the opportunity to play with him in the San Javier international Jazz festival at the end of July. In August he went on to play in Madrid for two nights in Sala Galileo with Spain’s biggest blues guitarist Javier Vargas and his band who he had played with earlier in the year. After another packed summer of shows Austin continued with his studies while playing at the weekends with his band. In October he had the chance to play with Ben Poole and then participated in a Blues course in the Madrid School of Blues. In December he went back to play in the UK for the first time and was a special guest of Sheffield band Boy on a Dolphin where he performed in front of 2000 people at the City Hall. Unknowing to him Eric Clapton’s daughter was in the audience and she sent a message through to the band saying that she was blown away by Austin.
This year apart from playing with his band The Streeters he also formed three new bands Guitar Heroes, Kings of the Blues and Austin Slack Trio all with distinctive lineups, giving him the chance to further his musical range by playing different styles with more musicians. Like many years before he had spent the year up and down the coast playing with his 4 bands sometimes 6 or 7 shows a week. In the late summer he was asked to perform again with The Symphonic of Pink Floyd tour, this time taking an even bigger role in the show once again performing in some of the biggest and most important theatres all over the country. With his high school education now finished Austin could concentrate on preparing for the next steps of his career.
This year was always going to be different, Austin finally had the time to concentrate on his solo carrer. In March he released his first Ep "Act 1" featuring 4 songs that he had been working on for some time. In May he launched his first crowdfunding campaign, which gave him the funds to record and release a second EP "Act 2" in the summer. Alongside the EPs he also started to release various video clips, during the summer Austin played in various festivals and musical events incluiding a short tour of spain with de legendary Del Bromham!
The next big event for austin will be his participation in the Big Up! festival in Murcia on the 6th of October.
